The Harvey Dutton Building, also known as the Isaacs Building and the Carnival Building in its long life,
has a rich history rooted in the Kansas City’s industrial boom.


Originally constructed in the early 20th century, the building served as a dry goods storage facility,
housing clothing and home goods manufactured in the surrounding Garment District to be distributed
around the city and country. Originally named after Harvey Dutton, a prominent figure in the local textile
industry, the structure’s use evolved over time to house the industries of the moment for a century.


Over the decades, as mass garment production evolved and left the city, the building became a relic of a
bygone era. Now, through thoughtful restoration and adaptive reuse, the Harvey Dutton has been
reimagined into modern residences and vibrant commercial spaces, blending historic preservation with
contemporary urban living.
